Description

Aponogeton undulatus is a variable plant that can grow to a height of around 40 cm. It is quite widely spread in lakes and ponds in the Asian tropics. It develops undulate submersed leaves comparable to those of A. crispus. There are different varietys of A. undulatus, some of them slow, some of them fast growers, and some even sprout floating leaves. This species can be recognised mainly on two characteristics: – Leaves: Many of the rectangular areas between the longitudinal and lateral nerves are more transparent and thus look darker than the surrounding leaf tissue. – At the end of the flower stalks, quite frequently no flower spike forms but an adventitious plant with a bulb. This phenomenon makes propagation of A. undulatus really easy.
